Call for submissions for the 2011 Writing Awards

Check out the Writing Awards link on the top of the page for information about the 2011 AGLSP writing awards competition, with entries due for submission by campus directors, after a campus screening process, in January 2011. If your program is a Full Member of the AGLSP, your students can participate. Graduate students and recent alumni, please consult with your program’s director to indicate your interest in participating and to discover any local guidelines for submission.

International interdisciplinary conference

The International Conference on Interdisciplinary Social Sciences has quite a bit of information on their web site about their August 2010 meeting at Cambridge. Paper submissions are due in mid-March.

The AGLSP Annual Faculty Award

The Association has posted the call for nominations for the AGLSP Annual Faculty Award, which honors “an outstanding faculty member who teaches within graduate liberal studies . . . [and who exemplifies] the qualities of interdisciplinary, liberal teaching and who [has] participated significantly in teaching or advising students and/or [has] actively participated in other faculty service in a graduate liberal studies program.”

If your program has a stellar faculty member, perhaps this is the time to make an nomination for this national award?

Study abroad options

A number of GLS programs across North America offer study abroad courses that are open to students from other institutions. We’d be happy to post some of these here, so let us know about them, and send pictures when you get back too.

Most recently, Simon Fraser University asked to post their May/June 2010 Scotland course, which sounds very interesting indeed.  Take a look at the course description and contact Stephen Duguid for more information.
